TuiNa AnMo – The Chinese Massage
TuiNa AnMo, also known in the West as Chinese massage, looks back on a history spanning thousands of years. Already during the Sui and Tang dynasties (581–907 AD), it was considered a significant healing method and was taught as an independent treatment system at the highest medical educational institutions.
In the classic work of Traditional Chinese Medicine, the Huangdi Neijing (The Yellow Emperor’s Inner Canon), TuiNa AnMo counts among the five major treatment methods – alongside herbal medicine, acupuncture and moxibustion, stone needles, and Qi Gong.
The four basic techniques
The name is composed of four hand techniques:
- Tui – Pushing
- Na – Grasping and kneading
- An – Pressing
- Mo – Stroking
With trained hands, the therapist acts specifically on various body levels: skin, subcutaneous tissue, muscles, fascia, and meridians.

Effect
The different techniques relieve tension, stimulate the free flow of life energy, and simultaneously promote mental relaxation.
